Obama

The world seems to be blogging about Obama , so I thought I'd have my four penneth.

I watched the ceremony and was awed by the 2 million people on the mall and suprised by the scrappy organisation on the balcony. I couldn't help thinking that if it was in London the whole thing would have been much more polished and regimented but of course that's missing the point. In a so called classless society you don't have the all the public school chappies, military or regal to faff about with it. I digress. Aretha Franklin sang her heart out and the BBC commentators decided it would be a good idea to talk over the first three minutes of the musical piece. Well it was only four of the best musicians in the world after all.

And to the man himself. Certainly cute with a beautiful family, and a good orator, but I think we can only be disappointed. He has been hyped up beyond what is achievable and it wont take long before we see that he is only human after all. If JFK had lived I think the same would have happened to him. I hope I'm wrong and I wish him well. I have a feeling that half of the celebrations yesterday can be attributed to the departure of Bush.

Well at least no-one took a pop at him, that was what I was concerned about.

I agree, there is almighty relief that Bush has gone, but the Obama is vital and full of new ideas.

Hi Toady - I think that the Americans were celebrating the triumph of their national sprirt - the fact that they had the guts to get rid of Bush in a legal, non-violent and democratic way. There are many things about America that have been overshadowed by the Bush years - aspects of the culture and the people that were and should be the envy of much of the world. I think that Amercians, and many people around the world hope that Obama can lead them back to national self-respect. I don't really believe that the people see him as offering the solution. They see him as leading them to it.
This was a good, thought provoking post.

I am really pleased that the American people have the president they want, but he is only president of the US, not of the world and NOT of the UK. Why do we have to endure so much of what goes on in America on our radios and newspapers, I bet they don.t give a toss about our political leaders.
