My most hated month and this year will not prove me wrong. The black dog is lurking and the tax man is calling. The bill plopped through the post early in January and although we had put the money aside - well nearly all of it - it still is a bit of a pinch. There goes my car fund.
We watched a documentary about Sralan Sugar one night last week. Apparently his first job was boiling up the beetroots for the local greengrocer. OH gaily announced that's what he used to do. Sadly all similiarites ended there. Seriously I wouldn't want to be a multi millionaire but a bit more would be welcome.
Any typos and nonsense in this blog must be forgiven as I'm typing on a really ancient laptop. The main computer had a hissy fit last week and is still away being mended. I'm lost without the mouse, photo uploading programme and my favourites. Which is a shame because the one highlight of last week was a really productive trawl around the charity shops. I found a beautiful hand knitted aran jacket for £4.85 which will be lovely in the spring, and two bargain bundles of new Wendy and Patons knitting wool for £2.50 each.
Talking of knitting I've just completed an enormous bunny ready for Easter, a picture of which I shall post when the computer is back.
My mind is now turning to crafty things for Mothers Day and Easter. I've some good ideas on the boil. Watch this space.
Well the credit crunch has done what the Post Office didn't manage last year and our little corner shop/PO closed just after Christmas. I can no longer run round for milk, bread or anything that has suddenly run out. I doubt whether anyone else will take it on, so that's that. It's such a shame .

Hi Toady so sorry that you find january such a tough month and hope you manage to come out ahead of the jaws of the black dog.
Oh what a shame your post office closed - I would be lost without ours - although ours is a stationers not a grocers.
Eeeeek Easter and Mother's day . . .
Oh and mice ate my lovely hand warmer you made for me - I still have the bigger one though. Well they didn't eat all of it but ate a hole in it and weed all over it.
I expect Sir Alan won't be penny pinching!

Toady, I don't think that January is anyone's favorite month. Certainly not mine.
Right now New York is in a truly cold week, much chillier that we usually have. No one really wants to spend too much time outdoors. (Hard fact to accept when you manage a shop!)
I am so sorry to hear that your local shop has closed. It really is so wonderful to know just how near milk or a loaf of bread might be. Hoping that in the months to come that shop might be re-opened, someone might find a clever way to have a mix of products and services that would allow it to succeed.
Here in this big city, we do wonder which corners might be dark or which tall skyscrapers might still be filled with commercial tenants on the ground floors and lots of wealthy residents above.
2009 is full of mysteries.
Well done on you bargain finds. I know that I have said it before, but ... for the record, may I again say that someday, I so want to visit a boot sale with you, or at least a cup of tea to learn your magic way of finding treasures.

Hi Toady, sorry to hear you are feeling down. January is such a gloomy month I don't like it either, but my youngest son has his birthday towards the end of Jan, so a little bit of cheer then.
What a pain about your shop, our local shop/PO closed a couple of months ago too, but we are very fortunate as someone has now taken it over.
Wish I lived nearer to you, would love to go bargain hunting with you. I'm still searchimg on ebay! xx
