I’m feeling a bit pleased with myself. Daughter and I had a trip into Barnstaple yesterday. Nothing very exciting about that you may say but I managed it without a having a hissy fit and getting all unnecessary. Mind you I insisted that we travelled on the old road, which is much quieter than the link road dual carriageway, and I contributed only the minimum of motherly advice about driving. I considered myself a very careful driver, some would say over cautious, but my daughter has inherited her father’s excellent driving skills so I need not worry.
The new western bypass and bridge in Barnstaple opened on Wednesday and there were some pretty bewildered folks about. Roads that have been safely navigated for years are now closed or one way and the frustration was palpable, although the traffic was moving and that is something very different for Barnstaple on a weekday lunchtime.
Well the best laid plans etc, and I have been thwarted again. There is a mill and shop in Barnstaple that used to print Laura Ashley fabric amongst others, and as well as cloth by the metre they used to sell remnants. These would all be piled up on a table in the middle of the room and you would buy them by weight. Well my cunning plan was to buy up some of these remnants to sell on ebay. When I say how much some folks were prepared to pay for the tiniest scrap of Laura Ashley, Nina Campbell and Cath Kidson I thought my fortune would be made. Sadly it’s not to be. The shop has been tidied up, no remnants and the stuff on the roll is no cheaper than anywhere else. I’ll have to think again.
It’s so nice to have Jaynebeth with us. I hope she is not too shocked by our funny little ways. So we are nearly complete. I miss Milly’s lovely painting blogs and of course Cowgirl must be persuaded to get herself over here too. Also I am missing Briar Rose’s lovely blogs and photos of the Scillies. As the weather forecast is horrid for the weekend I might go through the photo box and find my pictures of my trip there and I’ll post some of them.

You are obviously an accumplished car booter etc why not collect china and other retro items adn ebay those I ma sure there would be a market especailly if you were willing to sell to US and America.. they go mad for old table linen !
Toady-I think Cowgirl is here as Milkmaid??
I am sure it's her-love milkmaids blogs anyway so check her out and see.
I don't think you can find many cheap bargains now of laura ashley/cath kidston-vintage fabrics and prints are so trendy these days-even on E-bay they bid up quite high.
Made me smile about driving-I get myself worked up awfully if it's very busy and have to set off anywhere early as I hate busy carparks!!
warm wishes

Oh daughters and driving. Elder daughter who I would be happy to have drive me anywhere with my eyes shut has yet to pass her test.
Younger daughter passed ages ago and still terrifies me (Mind you I terrify myself sometimes too!)
I'm a terrible passenger, a real back-seat driver. No Milkmaid isn't Cowgirl. I also miss the people you've mentioned, and also Charlotte's Web.
Well done for getting out - I go through times of getting very aggitated about driving - I too miss the people you mentioned - I loved Briar Rose's blogs and her wonderful photo's. We are nearly all here I think. Keep strong.love mousie
I too miss Milla and Briar-Rose. Are they on the Other Side?

I am always telling my daughter off as I think she drives far too fast
I haven't got round to starting ebay yet but it is on the list.

Living in this cottage, we have small(ish) windows and I'm always scrabbling in the remnant box at Laura Ashley shops for curtain material. I wish my front garden was as neat as yours! We are "doing it" over the next few weeks and have hired a turf cutter (the rain welcome here to soften the ground!) to get rid of the lawn and I'm putting gravel down with box hedging and lavender.xx PS - Good to "see" you!x
Glad you enjoyed a trip to Barnstable without worries, shame you couldn't get the pieces of material. Least you feel comfortable driving with your daughter! Unlike me!
ah, l've noticed those remants on ebay as well, we have a L A factory outlet just south of herew, do you have anything similar close by?
Oooh, so the loop road is finally open - at last! Never knew that shop but how annoying...I hate it when things like that happen. I used to get fab bargains at the Mulberry Shop, but no longer....all pretty much full-price which is waaaaay out of my league.

Hi Toady - you are so enterprising! I'm sure you'll find another wonderful thing to buy up and put on ebay. What about ribbon, old school flashcards and friezes, buttons etc. Good for you for getting out in the car today!!
