The Toadster does it again

I nipped up to the recycling centre with L yesterday afternoon so that she could dump some accumulated junk found during the move to her new house and spied this at the resale section. It weighs a ton and isn't in too bad condition so with a little tlc and a tin of Hammerite and a bit of faffing I have at last somewhere to store all my fabric. The inside is the most gorgeous green with a really funky label. Not bad for £3 eh!

Oh has gone over to Lundy for 16 days to lay cable for our friend Phil the electrician. The helicopter took off and landed sideways and it is bitterly cold over there. He went armed with plenty of warm clothing, a bottle of voddie and three bottles of wine. He rang this morning and knowing the problems with Minnie yesterday the conversation went a bit like this.

Him

How's the dog?

Me

How's the ruddy dog!! I'm up to my elbows in s**t and corruption and you ask how the dog is.

Him

I don't know what to suggest.

Me

I suggest you get your a**e back over here and clear it up!

Fingers crossed she's been a bit better today and so far no suprises. I think there was a bit of seperation anxiety yesterday but she seems a bit more settled today. We've just been for our daily constitutional over on the nature reserve and I'm sure I saw an egret. The reserve is part of the flood defence scheme and there are two lakes that act as overflow for the Kenwith stream. They are manmade and attract a lot of geese and swans but I was most suprised to see an egret, I didn't know they came this far North. Some say that there are otters there as well and I would really love to see one of those.

The bitter cold easterly wind has dropped now and we didn't get the threatened snow and in spite of the bitter cold there are bulbs popping through. The magnolia stellata that I moved last spring has budded up and the white jasmine is in bud. How odd is that? I'm waiting for one of those rare January days that is warm enough to get out there and have a bit of a tidy round and of course I can start planning the bed at the end of the garden now that the shed is installed.

What a lovely tin trunk and a bargain too.
Last spring I saw an egret in Burgess Hill (West Sussex) If you knew Burgess Hill you would know how surprising that is! It was happily standing by a rather unatttractive ditch in the middle of the industrial area. If it turns up there, it is likely to arrive anywhere.
Happy New Year

Ooh I have tin trunk envy Toady! Our local recycling place got bought up and now we can't buy any of the stuff they get - it all gets sold off up country (she said through gritted teeth). Happy New Year Toady xx

That trunk is absolutely fab, Toady! You enjoy it - you deserve it. Less pleasant about the s**t, though. Not sure what to suggest, although I imagine you had some useful suggestions over at PC. Hopefully she will settle down - it's still early days, yet, I guess...

I do like the trunk, what a bargain!
I cant believe you have things in bud already, jasmine even! We have a Brambling visiting the bird table, a pretty little bird. and recently had a Green woodpecker strolling round the lawn, and also a Snipe.

Hello Toady, yes, you have done it again! You are amazing in the way that you find these treasures.

Hoping that Minnie will soon be comfortable, and well trained, and all of you will have peace at home. And what needs to be outdoors will be outdoors!

Really terrific find! I'm a trunk collector as well, when I can find a bargain and I'm drooling over this one.

I read the suggestions for house training and I think you got a pretty complete tutorial. Hope there was something there that you can use. My best to your little pup and to you. Sorry about your cleaning up chore.

Beautiful old trunk, Toady! Congratulations on your find! I hope Minnie stays comfortable and not stressed over Him being gone. Here's high hopes for no more poop in the house!

Utterly gorgeous trunk, Toady - serious bargain....
Have you tried a crate with Minnie? I know she's a bigger dog than Asbo, but a friend with a large collie (Lassie type) has one and says it helps enormously - with anxiety as well as the poop....
Lundy eh? We keep saying we will go and never do....mainly cos of leaving Asbo.
